FoxMUD is a great text based online RPG that I have been playing for a few years now. Fox MUD has four classes (Cleric, Mage, Warrior, Thief) and when you create your character you pick your class order based on which class you wish to accel most in. You can level up and gain skills in any class, but the exp required to level up in your 4th class pick is much greater than that required for your primary class. You are also able to gain Lord levels in your primary class. Lord levels allow you to specialize a bit and gain more powerful skills.
Hop on and give it a shot. telnet to foxmud.com 4848 or click here. If you want some tips on creating your character check out this Character Creation Guide.
As has been said before, QPs can be hard to come by, so, to this end we will be added some more QPs to the game. This will be totally random and could see one pop on as easily on a sash in town as on a frost giant.
So keep you eyes open, you never know what you may find.
So the results are in. Thanks to those you played and come see me for you prizes.
1st Gandolf 2nd Nimrod 3rd Ampersand and Mireille (joint)
Prizes are Gandolf 4QP Nimrod 2QP Ampersand and Mireille 1QP and 2 gold bars
Just to congratulate both Mireille and Gandolf for thinking outside the box and give me green corpses!! Good thinking folks.
One last thing remains however. As i was getting all these lovely green items it seem some items of mine were taken by a very sneaky Leprechaun. I have been trying to track him down but to no avail. However I hope to have a good idea by tomorrow where he is and if can catch and defeat him you are more then welcome to whatever loot he has taken on me.
So watch out for the final part of this quest tomorrow (Friday 19th)
Well as it is heading towards St. Patricks Day (17th March), I thought I would hold a quest for people to mark that day.
Starts: 9th March Duration: 1 Week (ends 17th March) Premise: Collect as many GREEN items as you can.
Only one of any item will be counted, as in, only one emerald, if you had in two it will still only count as one unique item.
Only one prize per participant. i.e. if you have two characters playing their items will be combined.
You can have items of emerald as that I would consider green and if you have any questions on items I will make the call on them. I will make the call on what is and what is not allowed, so ask if you are unsure.
New prices for foci have been released. As they represent a considerable increase from previous prices, players have until the end of March 6th to buy foci at the old prices for PERSONAL USE ONLY. Buying for resale after the price change is prohibited. Any foci requested during this period at the old prices will be reviewed by admin and the foci themselves will be given and paid for after the 6th.
The new rules for focus pricing are as follows:
Commissioning Spell Foci: Spell foci can be commissioned like any other piece of equipment. Their costs are how many QPs (quest points -- 'dark steel spheres') they cost, each. (Each commissioned focus is automatically set to be unstealable for free.)
Exception: All raise spell foci ('raise dead', 'miracle', 'spark of life', 'dark miracle') cost a flat 2 QPs total. All other spell focus prices are explained below. (Resurrection spells are generally fairly altruistic in their use, and we want to encourage such things in game play -- cooperation makes Fox more fun.)
Spell Level (NOTE: these are doubled for healing and blasting spells): 1 QP for spells of levels 0-12 (e.g. or 2 for 'cure light wounds' or for 'flame gout') 2 QPs for spells of levels 13-21 (e.g. or 4 for 'aetheral vortex' or for 'cure dire wounds') 3 QPs for spells of levels 22-33 (e.g. or 6 for 'heal' or 'sunfire') 4 QPs for spells of levels 34-43 (e.g. or 8 for 'mass heal' or for 'arctic blast')
Specific spell (flat) surcharges: +10 QPs for 'restoration' + 9 QPs for 'merciful touch', 'balm', 'lifedrain', 'soul chill' + 8 QPs for 'fiery doom', 'smite', 'wither', 'natures wrath','thunderstrike' + 5 QPs for 'acid blast', 'firelance'
Cost Multipliers to be applied to total cost: x 1/2 Lesser Focus (same as 50% of greater focus) x 3/4 Average Focus (same as 75% of greater focus) x 1 Greater Focus (thus 'full' price, 100%) (Rounded down for lesser and average foci in case of fractions, minimum of 1.)
Examples: A greater restoration focus would cost 6 (level 34 spell x 2 for healing) + 10 (surcharge) = 16. A lesser focus would cost 8 (50%) and an average focus 12 (75%).
A greater fiery doom focus would cost 8 (level 40 spell x 2 for blasting) + 8 (surcharge) = 16 (same as restore in the end).
A greater soul chill focus would cost 8 (level 43 spell x 2 for blasting + 9 (surcharge) = 17. A lesser focus would cost 8 (50%) and an average focus 12 (75%).
A greater focus of lightning strike would cost 6 (level 25 spell x 2 for blasting). A lesser focus would cost 3 and an average focus 4.
Trade Ins: Foci may be traded back in for 50% of cost in QPs, which can be paid in gold and/or silver bars for fractions, rounded down to the silver bar.
Appearance of foci:
The first person to commission a focus of a specific tier/spell (e.g. greater dire critter, or lesser dart arcane) gets to design the appearance of their focus if one does not already exist, subject to administration oversight. Any subsequent purchasers may get that design as a base (if the original commissioning player agrees and if the administration agrees), but a restring can be used to redesign it. Buyers of foci subject to flat surcharges have the right to a free restring on that focus.
Any foci objs that are made via restrings will be made available to future buyers as a free alternative, subject to the initial consent of the first owner of that restring (i.e. when the restring is used, the buyer may ask that it NOT be made publicly available). Administrative oversight may similarly restrict the proliferation of some restrings.

Sygis -- actually, the whole trade in issue, upon further thought, suggests we're not going to let folks trade in foci for QPs, but we will let them offset at least slightly more powerful versions of foci for that same spell (e.g. a lesser could help offset costs on average or greater focus for the same spell, and an average could help offset the costs for a greater (more than a lesser would) again for that same spell.
