1  Fox MUD / General Discussion / Re: Is there anybody out there? on: March 25, 2013, 07:15:52 AM
Hey Arakus, I am still here and so are a few others.  The mud is down at the moment due to a hardware failure on my end.  New hardware on the way so it should be hopefully up by the end of the week, but if you just want to chat about the mud or if you have questions you can either PM me or post here.

9  Fox MUD / General Discussion / One of FoxMUD's Great Creators has Passed Away on: August 17, 2011, 09:39:18 AM
It is a sad day in the realm of Foxmud.

The great Creator, Sygis, has passed from this world and into the next.

He will be greatly missed by those of us who knew him in the real world,
and were fortunate enough to call him friend.  The world of Foxmud has
lost quite possibly it's largest advocate.

There is much else that can be said, and perhaps should be said, but now
is a time for rememberance, and reflection on a life lived well, although
still cut way too short.
10  Fox MUD / General Discussion / Re: Foci price increase on: March 03, 2010, 07:53:31 AM
If you really consider that prior to recent past qp were much harder to come by then the price increase is sort of a combination between keeping up with inflation and balancing things.  Until recently you could not trade gold for qp and there were not nearly as many quests/events/whatever that allowed you to get qp.  So for old timers buying foci at 7-8 qp was very similar to buying them at the new prices now.  The ones who have really gotten a great deal are the players like yourself (Dizao) and Ampersand that have come in during the high earnings/low price window that has existed for the past year or so.

Foci are a huge step in power and they are not just supposed to be items you automatically get shortly after lording.  They should be a goal that folks work toward for a while.  Considering that you can swap foci around to all your players, buying a single focus is extremely helpful.  The move to make prices higher is not an effort to impede anybody, but rather to keep things interesting for a little longer by giving an intermediate goal between quad 40 and Lording.

As far as the raffle goes, I had no idea what it was going to be for or that it was even going to happen until I saw it posted on the board like everyone else.  I won the ticket count and every ticket I put in increased the price per ticket that everyone got.  Also, about 30% of my tickets were fresh pops.  Anybody else could have worked their butt off and earned more tickets for themselves.  I only saw one other guy out there really trying to pop stuff.  The payout ended up being higher than I (or anybody else) expected and I know future raffles will be adjusted.

11  Fox MUD / Suggestions / Re: Balance Weapon on: February 09, 2010, 07:05:20 AM
I don't think blunt weapons are better in any way  (would need to confirm).  Aside from that, Since everyone with a level 30 is entitled to a restring players can just restring their item to make it sharp and circumvent this restriction.
12  Fox MUD / Suggestions / Re: Balance Weapon on: February 05, 2010, 08:49:34 AM
New warrior skill would let you give the effect of sharpening to any weapon not just those with blades or points. Seems a bit unbalanced that those weapons can't get this effect to me. Would of course require different components, perhaps a file,  rasp or hammer and might require you to be at a forge/anvil or blacksmith though that would make it difficult to do in the field unless you have a portable forge and anvil.
I really like this idea and I think it is something we need.  Does not make sense that you can't get a bonus on a blunt weapon vs a sharp one.  I think it should perhaps require a counter weight (equivalent of blade oil) and any one of the above mentioned tools (equivalent of whetstone).

Another idea with this might be to have it lean more on hitroll then damage and offer 2 hitroll and 3 damroll as the max bonus.  I am also completely fine with giving it the same bonus as sharpen.

To me it just seems odd to penalize players for not using sharp weapons by not having an alternative to the sharpen skill.
13  Fox MUD / Suggestions / Re: 'devote' -- memming healing spells on: January 12, 2010, 06:29:39 PM
I agree with the general sentiment that this would not overpower anybody.  It does add a bit of extra utility because when I am tanking and I know I won't have time to blast I can just mem heals.  It also gives options to prime or second clerics and makes their lower end a little less tedious.
